Washougal, WA -The AMA MX National Series rolled into the beautiful state of Washington to attend round eight at Washougal MX Park. DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha comprised of #20 Broc Tickle, #48 Max Anstie, #341 Nico Izzi, and #577 Martin Davalos came in with hopes of keeping their status of fixtures up front intact. Things proved to be tough, as in the first practice Tickle swapped out through a roller section and hit the ground, which in return broke his collarbone. Unfortunately it didn’t end there, when in the early stages of moto one Anstie crashed in the very same section and was taken to the hospital. Further tests had him in the ICU through Monday with a lacerated spleen, but he has since been released and flown home to rest. Look for more updates on those riders as they come in, but our day at Washougal did end up having some bright moments that occured sporadically.

Taking top honors on this weekend would go to Davalos, who continues to slowly bring his total package together and match it up with the raw speed he holds. However, after a bad start in moto one and a crash that brought him into the mechanics area briefly to bend the bike into proper form, the likeable rider pulled himself up through the field. The task was accomplished, and he successfully piloted the #577 YZ 250F up to 22nd place by the races end. Moto two was a much better showing, sitting 6th on lap one, Davalos battled for 5th through the races entirety. By doing so, he took a hold of 5th and made it his own with four laps until the finish due to his determination and closed this round out positively.

Bringing another positive to a tough day was Izzi, grabbing a 7th place start in moto one, #341 put the hammer down. After moving up one spot very quickly, Izzi kept the fight going. With less than four laps to go, he battled relentlessly to maintain his position. In the end Izzi dropped two spots, seeing him fall back to a finish score of 9th. Nico’s moto two began well with him sitting 11th momentarily. The talented youngster rode hard and held his position by mid race. When the checkers were thrown, Izzi had slipped back into 18th, and his consistency was a building block.

Over the past weekend DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha visited Michigan’s Red Bud Track & Trail for the sixth round of the AMA MX National Series. With track and weather at a premium, team riders #20 Broc Tickle, #48 Max Anstie, #341 Nico Izzi, #577 Martin Davalos and #2 Jessica Patterson all were at full tilt in anticipation of good results.

Taking top honors on the day would be Tickle, starting moto one in 6th after finally getting a decent start due to the heavy testing that was done during the prior week. Lap after lap, Tickle heavily pursued the lead pack, and made his way into 5th and battled to overtake 4th. Riding exceptionally, Tickle kept strong but near the middle of moto he made contact entering an off camber and hit the ground momentarily. Remounting instantly, Tickle pressed on and when the moto came to a culmination, #20 had gotten himself a hard earned 7th. A start in moto two of 10th left some room for improvement. On lap two Tickle had taken his YZ250F to 8th, once there he tried his best for the remainder of 30 min. +2 laps, but things never developed just right and 6th was his finishing destination.

For Davalos moto one started out in a decent fashion, rounding lap one in 11th the Ecuadorian spent much of the race in that spot. Late in the moto, Davalos still had the fighting drive in him and was able to takeover 10th with two laps remaining, which is where he’d go on to finish at. Moto two got underway with Davalos acquiring a 10th place start, now with his potential coming to existence, Davalos held his own and rode up into the 8th spot. Striving to keep his form, his pace fell off momentarily and that shifted the #577 machine back to 12th. Reluctantly, Davalos found some reserve energy and bounced back in the closing laps to nab 8th.

Next in line on the day would be Izzi after a strong start to the weekend. Izzi’s moto one showed great promise, after a 6th place start, Izzi put his head down and worked on building a base after struggling as of late. Lap by lap, the FMF backed rider stayed consistent and maintained his position in the field. This allowed him to very convincingly take a well deserved 9th. An uneventful moto two saw Izzi start 22nd, climb up to 18th by mid moto, and then remain there all the way through the finish.

Max Anstie had a pretty quiet day, having had struggles in both motos. However, in moto two Anstie took the holeshot and the settled back in to the 3rd position. From there, Max held his own as he scrapped it out with the lead pack for much of the race. Unfortunately, Anstie had to pull out of the moto with bike issues and take a tally of 35th to close things out on the day.

Jessica Patterson raced like the former champion that she is, in both motos she sat in 2nd and within striking distance. A tick off the leaders speed, rather than risk the title Patterson held onto to the leader’s rear wheel and applied the pressure. With no way of capitalizing on any opportunities, Patterson rode on to a 2 – 2 moto tally and a second overall for the weekend.

Mechanicsville, MD – The AMA MX National Series headed to the far east of the country visiting Budd’s Creek MX Park in Maryland. DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha rolled in with high hopes of #20 Broc Tickle, #48 Max Anstie, #341 Nico Izzi, and #577 Martin Davalos obtaining a placing high up the overall rankings. Track conditions were pristine, yet still rough with the weather being very nice and hot.

Taking top honors of the team and having a rather consistent day was Tickle. When moto one got underway, Tickle sat just outside the top ten in 12th. Some quick moves allowed the Yamaha pilot to forge up to 10th, where he then fluctuated up and down slightly for most the race. In the closing stages, Tickle put his great fitness to use and secured 6th as his finishing position and then prepared for the second moto. Race number two for Tickle began with a stellar 9th place start. As the moto progressed, the North Carolina native rode aggressively, raising his status to 6th halfway in, and even acquired 5th briefly. A small bobble resulted in a slight move backwards, never willing to settle Tickle bounced back to capture 5th in the moto.

Next in line on the day would be Davalos, after a strong start to the weekend. Davalos’ moto one showed great promise after a 6th place start, Martin put on a slight fade in the tally near mid race and fell back to 11th. Lap by lap, the FMF backed rider inched his way back into the hunt, and very convincingly took a well deserved 9th. An eventful moto two saw Davalos start 8th, and remain competitive until a major endo down a steep hill jump tried to change things. However, the resilient Davalos climbed back aboard his machine in 15th and pushed his way up to 10th to make it a positive race day.

Having an absolutely brilliant beginning to his day and once again making a breakthrough was Anstie. Starting moto one in 3rd, Anstie moved into 2nd on lap three. Riding at his potential Max fought off two attacks and solidly forged ahead, all the while he kept the championship leader honest by staying within three seconds of him for most of the moto. With only a few laps to go, a small mental lapse caused #48 to washout the front end. Remounting instantly, Anstie went on to finish 8th. After severely twisting his ankle in the first moto, Anstie made a valiant effort in moto two. Getting a poor start, made bettering his day very difficult. Though he tried hard, continuing on wasn’t working out properly so the team had Max exit the track to not push the injury any further.

A less than stellar day for Izzi was truly unfortunate, after gutting out a 19th in moto one. Izzi tried to race through adversity, as he seems to be suffering from some sort of a complicated fatigue issue that is going to have him seeing specialists in the coming days. Although he finished he finished moto two, a hard fought 25th would be all he could muster.

Rancho Cordova, CA -The AMA MX National Series got the twelve race championship underway at Sacramento, Ca at Hangtown MX Park this past Saturday. DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha attended with a huge presence, fielding our five rider team comprised of, #20 Broc Tickle, #48 Max Anstie, #341 Nico Izzi, #577 Martin Davalos and the WMA title threat #2 Jessica Patterson who will contend the entire women’s series for the team. Saturday’s timed qualifying started out promising with our ultra fast YZ 250F’s powering each rider to a fast lap time, the fastest being Tickle who obtained the 2nd gate pick for the opening moto.
Finding good form here early in the series, was Tickle who dug deep and took control of his outcome. The first moto was a trying one at that, Tickle started 10th, then after a few calculated moves near mid moto. Tickle had climbed the charts slightly, holding steady at 7th, he rallied to close the gap and make more advances. In doing so just past halfway Broc lost his wheels and crashed. Remounting in a distant 12th position, the always tough kid raced back up to 11th only to yet again take another soil sample. Dropping a spot one more time Tickle made up the ground needed, moving forward with only a few laps until the finish. Still charging in good fashion to snatch up a few tiring riders, he’d come up short as the moto concluded and was forced to settle in 11th. In moto two Tickle’s start panned out a little more to his liking, with him in 8th, however he kept on the pressure and passed for 7th fifteen minutes into the race. Right till the bitter end, Tickle looked to have a top five finish coming his way. As he rode at the tail end of a four rider freight train, he made smart moves on a section of the track where he excelled. Lots of persistence paid off, which allowed Broc to get into 5th inside of four laps to go. Not settling one iota, Tickle hounded the moto one winner, nearly passing him on several occasions, but he never got it done. When it was over, Broc came away with a 5th, netting him 7thoverall on the day.

Anstie had a good start to his first season of outdoors on a Yamaha, through his consistency he did fairly well but it was not where he would have liked to land on the results page. For the English rider moto one began with him in 11th, from there Anstie maintained his composure and put his head down. Impressively, in just six laps he gained two positions, and now sat in a solid 9th. In the closing stages Anstie had one bad bobble which cost him a few spots as he crossed the finish line in 12th. Anstie second part of his tally had him starting 19th; and that was after passing a slew of riders in lap one. By the halfway mark he had crept his way into 15th, riding solidly he maintained this position for most of the race and right at the end Max moved passed a fatigued rider, leaving him to a finish of 14th and a 11th overall.

The struggles of Davalos could be felt, starting 9th in moto one, the DNA backed rider could not find his usual contending speed after tightening up early on. Doing what he could all the while, one rider after another would shift him back through the moto. The embarrassing showing, only allowed Davalos to muster up a 16th finishing position. Moto two looked more promising, as he started 11th, and then moved to back a few spots into 14th. Racing with some passion, Davalos pushed hard and made it back to 11th where he’d finish out salvaging 20th overall.

In closing, Nico Izzi had a rough start to his outdoor series, starting off in 12th unfortunately on lap two he crashed and had trouble restarting the motorcycle. This resulted in a long moto for Nico, but he did comeback to 22nd. Moto two was a solid showing for Izzi, who is coming off injuries. With lap one in the books, once again he held 12th and maintained that position the entire moto. Izzi’s uneventful combined moto scores gave him an overall of 18th and gave him something to build on.

Holding the torch high for the team, Jessica Patterson went out and destroyed her competition in a convincing fashion. Starting out in 2nd, she made an awesome pass on lap two to go by her arch rival. From there, Patterson checked out and took the win. Moto two was all of the same but better as Patterson led every lap and took the overall win with a statement.

Seattle, WA – Over the weekend DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha came away with its most successful race since the team’s inception six years ago. Seeing both #48 Max Anstie and #20 Broc Tickle achieve new things for the first time in their career that the industry has really taken notice of. Clear skies greeted the 51,442 fans that visited Qwest Field in Seattle, Washington for the penultimate round of the Lites West AMA Supercross Series.

The night show began with both the rookie and Tickle slated into Heat race #2, Anstie got the best of starts leading the field through turn one. This is when the big highlight all began to come together. Riding at his best and increasing his lead every single lap, Anstie rode flawless and was uncontested. In doing so, Anstie went on to win his first ever Heat race fresh off his hip injury. Also riding in a dramatic fashion, Tickle remounted after being taken down in a first turn pileup to come all the way up to a 4th place finish.

The 15 lap main event fired out of the gate, and once again Anstie was high up in the field, as well as Tickle after the first turn sitting in 3rd and 5th. Unfortunately, in the second turn the leader went down and Max had nowhere to go other than the ground to. Upfront, By the end of lap one Tickle had secured 2nd and was applying heavy pressure to the leader. Once Lap three was in circulation, it was easy to see how strong Broc was, and on this very lap he executed a pass into 1st. Now the leader, Tickle’s confidence kicked in, and he bolted taking the ridiculously treacherous track and making it look easy. Meanwhile, after not being able to restart his bike for some time, Max was nearly a half of a track length behind the second to last place rider in the early stages of the race. However, very methodically and fast, by the halfway mark the combination of those two things stated, enabled him to capitalize on other competitor’s mistakes. Lap eight saw the Yamaha pilot takeover 12th, and then on the very next lap he made a clean pass into 11th. At this point Tickle showed strength by finding his lines and breaking away to a good five second plus lead. With three laps remaining, Anstie was still on the charge and had made it to 10th. Never settling, the rookie prodigy leaped up to 9th in the closing stages of the race and went on to finish there. Back to Tickle, who took his DNA Shred Stix Yamaha 250F through its paces in the closing laps. Still riding solid as if he was a multi time winner, Broc successfully etched his name in the record books as a Supercross winner!

This past Saturday the AMA Lites East coast Supercross series headed to the St. Louis’ Edward Jones Dome for the final round. Nearly 60,000 fans were treated to a technical track that had great soil, and was very challenging to say the least. DNA Shred Stix/ Star Racing/Yamaha got the day started fantastically with #577 Martin Davalos standing high up in the charts in 3rd, at the conclusion of Timed-qualifying practice.
With the NCY backed rider slated into Heat #2, it was Davalos who pushed himself into 2nd early on. On lap two, Davalos acquired the lead with his sheer speed and went on racing aggressively right till the finish. For the second week in a row, Davalos took the heat race win in a convincing fashion and let it be known that he is a refreshed rider indeed.

The all important Main Event set out, with 15 laps ahead of him, after lap one Davalos sat inside the top ten in 7th. Still wanting more, Davalos climbed up to 5th and easily closed in on the top three riders by lap five. On lap eight, Davalos moved into 4th and kept the pressure on to hopefully reach the podium. Unfortunately right there after, Davalos lost some ground to the competitors ahead when he suffered from a few slight bobbles. Able to regroup, Martin continued on with consistent lap times straight through all the way to the checkers. Another valiant ride by Davalos helped him take home 4th, and his third top five finish of the year. Plus, he was able finish up in 9th in the overall east coast Supercross championship.

Houston, TX – The AMA Supercross series went to the mid west over the weekend, visiting Houston, Texas’ Reliant Stadium. DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha attended with high hopes for their lone East coast representative by the name of #577 Martin Davalos. The day started out fairly well for Yamaha backed rider, who put down an impressive lap time as 4th fastest in timed qualifying.

Slated into Heat #1, Davalos had been feeling confident all day and it showed when he reeled off a great start and settled into the 2nd spot. Immediately, Davalos started to apply pressure to the race leader with raw speed, and even nearly took the race lead for a brief moment. After filing back into the 2nd position following a few mistakes, Davalos regained his composure and had some luck on his side for sure. As mid way through the race the leader washed out his front wheel, and right there to capitalize was the #577 machine. Riding much more solidly as of late, Davalos rode on to a brilliant Heat race win.

When the gate dropped in the main event, this time Davalos was forced to sneak around the inside of the first turn in order to come out near the front of the field. Holding down 7th on lap one, Davalos wasted no time in getting out front and inside the top five. Racing with the lead group, Martin was once again establishing himself as a contender by holding his own and challenging for the 4th place position. Lap eight saw a minor setback after he missed his timing in a rhythm section, causing a slip of one spot to 6th. Not backing down one bit; he began to put his fitness to use and with only a handful of laps remaining until the checkers Davalos continued with lots of effort. Just for that he was graced with another touch of luck, when the third place rider took a soil sample on the final lap handing Davalos a stellar finish of 5th.

Toronto, Ontario – The AMA Supercross Series traveled north of the border, making an appearance in Canada by way of a huge fan base inside the Rogers Centre over the past weekend. A technical track, with extremely slick soil treated DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha’s #341 Nico Izzi, and #577 Martin Davalos, to a tough night of racing.

Lites Heat #1 began in solid form with Davalos upfront and setting the standard. For five laps, Davalos kept his composure as he went after the leader. Holding strong, the Yamaha pilot fended off any attacks and raced on to a 2nd place. Izzi showed promise, but was buried back in 12th around the first turn. Quickly Izzi wicked up his pace, seeing him make a move for a decent qualifying spot, and by races end he finished in 5th.
For the main event, track conditions had deteriorated which made racing all the more difficult. Finishing lap one in 6th, Izzi avoided all the carnage and set out towards the front. Unfortunately, Davalos didn’t fair as well after starting around 10th, he was caught up in some pile ups that relinquished him all the way back to 20th on lap one. After a few more laps into the race, Martin had regrouped and etched his way up in to the top fifteen, only to crash one more time. At this point, Izzi rode at one steady pace, and with the race past the halfway mark, he comfortably ran just inside the top ten. With the 15 laps winding down, the DNA teammates rode onward in trying to salvage a good result. In the end, Nico put together a 10th place finish and Davalos took home a 15th for the night.

The AMA Supercross series visited Daytona Motor Speedway and massive crowd last Saturday for round three of East coast Lites championship. DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing /Yamaha’s fielding of two riders, #341 Nico Izzi, and the rider from Ecuador #577 Martin Davalos. Like every year, conditions at this race are extremely challenging and everything needs to lineup just right for a great finish. Preliminary action got underway in good fashion as Izzi stood high up in the charts at 3rd and Davalos clocked the 6th fastest Timed-qualifying lap.

Slated into Heat #1; Davalos reeled off a fair start only to get taken down in the first lap. Once back going again, Davalos was far from qualifying unfortunately. So in the dreaded LCQ, Davalos played it cool and took 1st, securing himself into the Main Event. When the Main Event took to the track, Davalos and his #577 bike were in the mix sitting in 9th. Finding his grove, Davalos quickly made his way through a few battles, and on lap three he had reached 8th. Once there, Davalos had a bobble on lap five which took him back to 11th. From there, Martin put together consistent laps and got back into being in race mode, which carried him to the finish of 10th.

Next in line would be Izzi, starting Heat #2 in the thick of the field, the Georgia native showed good speed and raced on to a transfer position of 5th. With a subpar start to the Main Event, 13th, Izzi jumped to 8th on lap five. However, while on the move he fell victim to a few mistakes and would end up being shuffled back to 11th on the eleventh lap. Shaken a little, Izzi pushed on to close out the remaining laps strong. Certainly feeling some effects of the bobbles he had, the last lap saw Izzi relinquish another few positions when he hit the ground momentarily, once back up Izzi went on placing him in 13th, where he’d finish out at.

Anaheim, CA – Round three of the 2010 AMA Supercross series made its way back to California by once again visiting Angel Stadium. After multiple torrential rain storms throughout the week leading up to the race, Saturday’s weather turned out to be perfect and any possible forecasts of rain ended up to be untrue as it held off luckily. To the surprise of everyone, track conditions were uncompromised to say to say the least and the action turned out to be thrilling. DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha’s west coast squad comprised of #20, Broc Tickle and newcomer to professional Supercross #48, Max Anstie took to the track in timed qualifying confidently, setting the 5th and 9th fastest times.
Heat #2 had both Tickle and Anstie lined up, getting out of the gate in good fashion would be Tickle who held down 2nd. Anstie was closed out coming into the first turn, and in the early laps he made some smart moves to insure the netting of a transfer position. The consistent, but still aggressive riding of Tickle saw him take his Yamaha to a solid 2nd place finish, and only a second off of the championship leader at the end of six laps. Anstie kept his cool and pushed the limits against the veterans as he worked his way up through the field. Holding down the 5th spot with a couple of laps left, the young Englishmen was still hard at work. In doing so, the rookie took a hold of 4th before the qualifier closed out and secured himself in the main event.
Main Event time was exciting right away; Tickle put together a good start and was in the mix of the top five. Unfortunately, early on the first lap he lost some traction and hit the ground. He was able to remount, however it was in a distant 20th. Starting around fifteenth, Anstie’s first laps were spent making moves, and inside of three laps he held down the 9th spot. At halfway both teammates were moving forward, Anstie found his way to 7th, setting some of his best lap times and continued with a calculated performance. Tickle was putting on a great comeback by this point, sitting 11th he could see that a top ten was feasible. On lap thirteen, Max had reeled in and passed for 6th, and also was looking at an outside shot of obtaining 5th. But a lapper caused one slight bobble when he mistimed a rhythm section, taking some wind out of Max’s sails. Slipping back into 7th, Anstie regained his form and went on to finish just outside the top five in only his third Supercross race. Tickle would continue to soldier on right until the checkers, and mustered up a finish of 10th.
